Panama Papers expose tax havens

An unprecedented data dump from a Panamanian law firm revealed in April how the rich and powerful used tax havens. Figures ranging from global leaders such as former British Prime Minister David Cameron to film star Amitabh Bachchan reportedly had links to offshore companies through the legal firm Mossack Fonseca. The first casualty of Panama Papers was Iceland’s Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, who resigned amid fierce protests within days of the leak being published. The German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung first reported on the documents dump, which continues to fuel investigations by countries around the world into links between individuals and offshore companies.
