Fighting The Monster: Pulitzer Prize winner has local newspaper roots

ROCKY MOUNT – A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist whose investigative reporting has blown the lid off fraud and exploitation got his start in the mountains of Franklin County.

Michael Hudson is the senior editor for the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). It’s based out of Washington DC, and he lives in New York City. He spent his high school and college years, from 1977 to 1985, living in Ferrum.

He now lives in New York City and is the senior investigative reporter for the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

‘Getting to hear their story’

Hudson was born in Richmond and moved to Ferrum at the age of 15, when his father, Grant Hudson, took a job as the head basketball coach at Ferrum College. His mother, Gail Hudson, became the public relations director of the college. The family lived in Ferrum on Faculty Hill, he said.
