Bipartisan group in Congress urges Trump administration to utilize Global Magnitsky sanctions in Central America


(PRESS RELEASE VIA SNO) – A bipartisan group of members of Congress leading U.S. efforts on Central America today urged the Trump Administration to use its authority under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act to sanction six individuals from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico for their involvement in corruption and organized crime.

The letter was sent from Representative Eliot L. Engel (D-NY), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chair Emeritus of the Committee, Albio Sires (D-NJ), the Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, David Valadao (R-CA), Republican Co-Chair of the Central America Caucus, and Norma Torres (D-CA), Democratic Co-Chair of the Central America Caucus.
