The president of Panama calls upon Parliament to legislate against tax evasion

The president of Panama Juan Carlos Varela has called this week for the Parliament to quickly approve a draft law providing for prison terms of up to five years in jail for fiscal evasion in excess of $ 300,000.

The president has warned that he will convene the Parliament in extraordinary session at the end of November if the bill is not debated before the 31st October, the date of the end of the regular session until the 1st of January next.
