MEP Ana Gomes has said she will be asking the police to investigate allegations made by the portal Anti-Corruption EU regarding ties to Kazakh oligarch Mukhtar Ablyazov.
On the 15th of November, Anti-Corruption EU (EUAC), a recently set up blogging site whose domain details are not public, claimed that Socialist MEP Ana Gomes, when on a mission to Kazakhstan, had met Gaini Yerimbetova. This portal claims that Yerimbetova is a close collaborator of Mukhtar Ablyazov, a former minister of Kazakhstan accused of corruption by the government. The portal attributed this as evidence of some form of collusion and Gomes took to Twitter to say that she will be requesting the police for investigation into this ‘slander’.
