Glencore demands AFR take down Paradise Papers stories

Swiss mining group Glencore has demanded that The Australian Financial Review take down articles which detail Project Everest, the group’s 2014 plan to restructure its Australian holdings which is now the subject of an investigation by the Australian Taxation Office.

The Financial Review published articles on Tuesday that referred to documents and accounts, parts of which had already been widely reported last November by international partners of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, including The New York Times, Le Monde, the BBC, the Guardian and the ABC.

The documents were part of the Paradise Papers, a cache of more than 7 million documents from Bermuda law firm Appleby, which had been obtained by German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung and shared with the ICIJ.

Glencore boss Ivan Glasenberg wants articles on Project Everest taken down.
